Powerplant
Solara features a life-in-the-fast-lane 3.3 litre DOHC that puts out 210 Horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 220 Lb-Ft of Torque at 3,600 rpm.
Solara's engine also features Electronic Throttle Control with intelligence. ETCS-i replaces the mechanical linkage between accelerator pedal and throttle butterfly with a Drive-by-Wire system that ensures the optimal amount of throttle is applied for any situation. The result: quicker response, smoother acceleration and deceleration along with enhanced fuel economy.
Transmission
Both models are equipped with a Gated-Shift 5-speed Automatic Sequential Multi-mode Electronically Controlled Transmission. ECT allows the Engine Control Module to manage shift decisions based on engine speed and load. The result: fast, liquid-smooth acceleration that helps turn every drive into an adventure.
Fuel Performance

In addition, Vehicle Stability Control [VSC] and Traction Control [TRAC] help control engine power and brake force to each wheel for less slip and greater grip during evasive or sudden maneuvers.
Passive
In the event of collision, multiple airbags, including standard Multi–stage Driver and Front Passenger and Seat Mounted Side Airbags are there to help cushion the blow. The Coupe model also features Curtain Side Airbags for added protection.
